Anna Wintour is infamous in the world of fashion, both for her influence over luxury fashion and for her decisive decision-making. Her bold demeanor has garnered her nicknames such as “Nuclear Wintour” and the “Ice Queen” and her long-standing advocacy for real fur has us here at CAFT in agreement: Anna Wintour is a real-life Cruella de Vil.

REAL FUR: ANNA WINTOUR LOVES WEARING FUR

Anna Wintour has been a focus of the animal rights movement for decades due to her gross public displays in support of real fur. She is frequently spotted in full-length fur coats and has made statements to the press such as “This is the moment for me to confess that, yes, I wear fur. I also eat juicy steaks,”  and “Fake fur is obviously more of a polluter than real fur.”

While her personal decisions are cause for concern to any animal advocate, it is her influence over the fashion world at large that is the real issue. Wintour has been dubbed the “CEO of Fashion” and while this title may be symbolic, her role in bringing fur back into popular culture in the fashion industry is not.

What Anna Wintour has decided to put into the pages of Vogue Magazine has real-life consequences for the animals on fur farms. A real fur coat on the pages of Vogue is a green light to every young designer looking to make a name for themselves.

“To be in ‘Vogue’ has to mean something. It’s an endorsement. It’s a validation.” – Anna Wintour

SHIFTING POWER: ANNA WINTOUR STILL HOLDS THE KEYS

Anna Wintour was the Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue for 37 years, from 1988 to 2025. Her time at Vogue shaped fashion as we know it today. Anna is responsible for multiple comebacks from the fur industry and her reign has recently come to an end as the American Vogue Editor when she selected Chloe Malle to replace her as the new Head of Editorial Content.

While at first glance this shift in power seems to be a positive one for the animals on fur farms, a closer look will reveal that Anna still wields significant power at Condé Nast. She is still the Global Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast where she has high-level, strategic oversight of all Vogue editions and nearly all Condé Nast publications globally.

Anna Wintour is still as dangerous as ever.

ANIMALS ARE DYING FOR ANNA’S PAYCHECK

Anna Wintour is worth $50 million dollars and made nearly $4 million a year at Vogue as Editor-in-Chief. Luxury fashion is a big business and Anna Wintour is the “CEO”.

Every year, millions of animals die on fur farms. They suffer in cages until fur farmers pull them out to be killed and skinned. Their pelts can then be sold at auctions for fashion houses like Berluti or Louis Vuitton to purchase and turn them into next winter’s runway collection. If there is enough praise for the real fur garments on the runway by the fashion elites like Anna Wintour, these designs will be turned into ready-to-wear collections for the average consumer like you and me.

Anna Wintour has the power to put this bloody cycle to an end by enacting a company-wide fur-free policy at Condé Nast. Her influential position as Global Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast gives her the power to do exactly that.

Here at CAFT, we are not holding our breath for the “Ice Queen” to make the right decision all on her own. Which is exactly why New York City anti-fur activists have held demonstrations outside her home demanding a change in Vogue Magazine’s stance on fur.

ANNA WINTOUR IS A MONSTER

For the wildlife suffering on fur farms, Anna Wintour is the face of pure evil. While it may be the fur farmers strangling minks until their last breath, it is Anna Wintour who ensures a market for real fur exists for the next litter of minks, foxes, or raccoon dogs, to be slaughtered and have their pelts be sold to the highest bidder at auction.

TAKE ACTION ON THE STREETS!
