FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CAFT Thanks Television Academy for Efforts Towards a Fur-Free Emmy Awards
New York, March 06, 2026 – CAFT is pleased to report that the Television Academy has determined the red carpets at all Television Academy Emmy® ceremonies, including the Creative Arts Emmy® Awards and the Primetime Emmy® Awards telecast, will be designated fur-free, beginning with this year’s ceremonies. This development comes after dialogue with the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT).
Invitations to each ceremony will inform guests the 2026 Emmys red carpet is fur free. The Academy will also work to ensure any guest who arrives wearing fur removes it before accessing the red carpet or ceremony.
As the first major award show to adopt a fur-free red carpet policy, the Television Academy is setting industry precedent and reinforcing its commitment to keeping Emmy events celebrations of television and the creative community.
Similar policies have been recently implemented by New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week, as well as Hearst and Vogue Magazine.
“We applaud the Television Academy for taking this progressive and compassionate step.” said Suzie Stork, executive director of CAFT. “As the first major award show to adopt a fur-free red carpet policy, the Emmys are helping shape a more ethical future for fashion and entertainment. It’s an inspiring decision and a real win for wildlife.”
