CAFT Announces Victory in Campaign Targeting Hearst and Harper’s BAZAAR
New York, NY – Tuesday, December 9th 2025 – After a five-day protest campaign, The Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT) announced a major victory: Hearst Magazines, including Harper’s BAZAAR, Esquire, and Town & Country, has committed not to promote fur across any of their publications. In an email sent to CAFT by Allison Keane, VP of Communications, it was confirmed that a line was added to their sustainability section on the “About Us” section. It reads: “Across our portfolio of wholly owned global brands, Hearst Magazines prohibits the promotion of animal fur in editorial content and advertising. (Our guidelines recognize defined exceptions and apply to all new business and future content).” The commitment brings Hearst in line with its already-fur-free title, Elle, and marks a significant step forward for animal protection within the fashion media landscape.
CAFT Executive Director Suzie Stork celebrated the victory: ”This is a huge moment for the fashion world. Hearst has shown real leadership by recognizing that fur has no place in modern media. This decision will save countless animals and reflects the growing public demand for compassionate fashion.”
Hearst’s decision comes after only a protest and disruption at Hearst Tower in NYC and several emails.
With that, CAFT Executive Director, Suzie Stork, announces the next campaign: “Any brand still selling fur in 2025 should expect massive public outcry. Our next campaign is targeting Rick Owens, and we will bring the same relentless pressure that has pushed so many fashion houses to drop fur for good.”
This milestone adds to CAFT’s long history of hard-hitting, decentralized campaigns targeting some of the world’s most influential fashion houses, including Marc Jacobs and Max Mara.
