Alexander Wang Goes Fur-Free Following International Protest Campaign
In a landmark decision for ethical fashion, luxury brand Alexander Wang has announced it will go fur-free following a nine-day international protest campaign organized by the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT USA). The campaign against Alexander Wang held protests across the United States, Spain, Italy, Japan and Belgium calling on the brand to commit to a fur-free policy in their stores and all future collections.
On November 1, the brand confirmed it would no longer include fur in its designs, in a post to their Instagram, Alexander Wang stated “We have decided to […] remove our fur products. we are also in the process of recalling these items from our wholesale accounts and have a plan to phase out fur from our brand.’ This shift aligns Alexander Wang with other fashion leaders moving away from animal fur in favor of more sustainable and ethical materials.
Matthew Klein, Executive Director of CAFT USA, responded to Alexander Wang’s decision with the following statement: “This is a powerful win for animals and for the countless consumers who have pushed for an end to animal cruelty in fashion. Alexander Wang’s decision underscores a wider trend within the industry as companies recognize that continuing to sell fur will result in sustained and relentless opposition from activists around the globe.”
This victory is the latest in CAFT’s ongoing campaign to end the exploitation of animals within the fashion industry, following recent announcements from other brands such as Max Mara and Marc Jacobs. Alexander Wang’s fur-free commitment sets a powerful example and reinforces the message that animal cruelty is no longer acceptable in luxury fashion.
