Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade Demands Etsy Ban the Sale of Real Fur
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Francisco, CA (March 3, 2026) — Anti-fur activists disrupted a live Etsy presentation at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco on Tuesday evening, confronting Etsy CEO Kruti Patel Goyal and CFO Lanny Baker in front of a room full of investors and analysts. The presentation was also being broadcast live to Etsy’s shareholders.
The first activist entered with a megaphone and addressed both executives directly from the back of the room before being escorted out. A second activist then walked on stage and confronted Ms. Patel Goyal and Mr. Baker face to face asserting “Shame on you Kruti and shame on you Lanny for profiting off of the bloody fur trade.” The activist went on to claim that “anyone who does business with Etsy” would be a target of activist pressure. Ms. Patel Goyal was filmed hiding her face from the camera as the room went silent. Neither executive responded.
This demonstration is part of the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade’s (CAFT) campaign launched February 3, 2026, demanding that Etsy remove all fur products from its platform and implement a permanent ban on fur sales. Etsy markets itself as a sustainable, socially conscious marketplace. Yet bobcat, fox, mink, rabbit, and coyote fur products remain widely available on its platform. Fur production has been extensively documented to cause severe suffering to millions of animals, significant environmental damage, and heightened public health risks.
Since the campaign’s launch, there have been protests at Etsy’s headquarters in Brooklyn, NY, and in Mexico City, Mexico, and at the offices of companies associated with Etsy and its board of directors across the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Belgium.
Suzie Stork, Executive Director CAFT says, “While Kruti Patel Goyal and Lanny Baker sit on stage at the Palace Hotel discussing how to increase profits, wild animals are caught in traps set by Etsy sellers, chewing off their own limbs trying to escape. Millions more are crammed into filthy cages on fur farms, waiting to be electrocuted or have their necks broken for their pelts” She continued “Etsy identifies as a values-driven company, but profiting off extreme cruelty goes against those values. Until they end this atrocity, they should expect activists to be at every event and every meeting calling them out.”
