Dear Neiman Marcus Group,
The fur industry is one of the most violent on the planet. Right now, foxes are shaking in the backs of wire cages, waiting for a fur farmer to pull them out for the very first time so that they can be gassed or anally electrocuted and their bodies can be turned into a piece of clothing that serves no practical purpose in society. Fur is not utilized to stay warm but rather as a symbol of wealth, available only to those who can afford it.
The issues we take with fur do not end with class envy and animal exploitation but also environmental degradation. Nearly every major retailer in the world has committed to a fur-free policy, not for concerns about class or animal welfare, but for sustainability.
We applauded the steps Neiman Marcus Group (NMG) made in March 2022 with your commitment to the environment though a fur-free policy that was scheduled to begin March 2023. In your press release, you stated, “NMG has begun to implement its exit from fur, scheduled for March 2023, and 100% compliance with this new policy that aligns with the Fur Free Alliance guidelines.”
It is now April 2024 and you still have not removed fur from your websites and have even sold fur in California despite a statewide ban against fur as of January 1st 2024.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the relaunch of an international campaign against Neiman Marcus Group. This campaign will continue until we can confirm that NMG and all of your subsidiaries have a strict fur-free policy, no exception. You can expedite this process by emailing your updated fur-free policy to [email protected].
We prefer cooperation over confrontation. The choice, however, is yours.
