Our Mission:

Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade USA exists to forever end the killing of animals for their fur. Our method is to dismantle the retail market, forcing one company after another to abandon fur, until the industry collapses.

Failure is not an option. The fur industry is the low hanging fruit in the world of animal exploitation. If we are unable to beat fur – at their lowest point in history, how can we expect to take on more powerful industries that kill animals? Fur is a stepping stone in the path towards animal liberation.

Theory of Change

We believe in doing what works. The strategy used by CAFT USA is not an untested theory, but a skillset we have learned from nearly 20 years of experience. The animals rotting away in fur farms do not care how hard we tried, they care about their liberation. They care about winning. Every decision made in CAFT is predicated on this simple yet effective ethos. This has led us to 8 victories in a row against the fashion industries largest brands – including Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Don’t take our word for it, see what the industry has to say:

“Fur is under attack like never before. Hardly a week goes by without news of some brand dropping fur, or a jurisdiction proposing to ban its production or sale. This tsunami of negativity fuels a self-reinforcing cycle: As major retailers (Saks, Neimans, Holt Renfrew) stop selling fur, successful brands (Canada Goose, Moose Knuckles, Mackage) have less incentive to stand up to relentless activist pressure – and, with less business at stake, it becomes harder for politicians to resist activist pressure for production or sales bans. Worse, the barrage of negative news can create the false but potentially self-fulfilling impression that “society” has decided it is no longer ethically acceptable to wear fur” – Truth about fur

Who is CAFT?

CAFT USA is organized by seven unpaid volunteers. We work 7 days a week. 365 days a year. We have one goal, one vision: putting an end to the fur trade once and for all. Some of our members have nearly 20 years of experience in the animal rights movement. We have spent time fighting whalers on board with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, closed mink farms through non-violent direct action, faced off with multi-billion dollar corporations in various international campaigns and have won. This knowledge is what has shaped the direction of CAFT USA. But we are nothing more than an idea without you. The backbone of the animal rights movement is comprised of grassroots organizations in cities around the world autonomously taking action for animals. This collective effort is at the core of what defines the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT).

How to get involved:

If you want to get involved in the national movement to abolish the fur trade, simply set up an event or action against a current campaign target in your city. We are excited to see grassroots activists from all over the world put their own visions into action, all working towards a single purpose. And we ask that you please submit an action report with pictures to let the world know.

If you have never hosted a demo or need help finding people in your area, contact us and we will set up a phone conference with your group. We are available to help every step of the way.
