Puig Fashion Group at the Center of a New Anti-Fur Campaign
Puig Brands, S.A, is the new focus for Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade U.S.A. (CAFT USA) and the international grassroots anti-fur movement. Puig, headquarted in Barcelona, Spain, is a luxury fashion group with well-known brands such as Carolina Herrera, Christian Louboutin, and Rabanne, among others, included in its portfolio of subsidiaries.
This new campaign follows recent findings of fox and raccoon fur products being sold by Carolina Herrera and aims to bring awareness to the ethical and environmental concerns associated with the fur industry.
CAFT is calling on Puig to implement a fur-free policy across all its brands, highlighting that several of its subsidiaries, such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Adolfo Dominguez, have already successfully adopted fur-free policies. “Given that some of Puig’s brands have already committed to going fur-free, extending this policy company-wide should not be a difficult step,” says Matthew Klein, Executive Director of CAFT. “We believe that Puig, as a prominent leader in the fashion and beauty industry, has the ability to make this commitment and join the increasing number of companies that prioritize animal welfare and environmental sustainability.”
Animals on fur farms, such as foxes and raccoon dogs, are kept in cramped wire cages, deprived of any opportunity to express their natural behaviors. They endure extreme suffering throughout their lives, and their deaths—often by electrocution or suffocation in gas chambers—are widely regarded as inhumane. Furthermore, contrary to popular belief, fur production has been shown to cause significant environmental harm and is among the most polluting textiles.
CAFT and its partner activist groups are committed to ending the use of fur in fashion, demonstrating the strength and persistence of their campaigns. The coalition has convinced high profile companies such as Zegna, Kering, and, more recently, Marc Jacobs, Max Mara Fashion Group, and Anne Fontaine, to adopt fur free policies. Puig is urged to follow suit, joining a growing movement toward a more ethical and sustainable future in fashion.
